Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is particularly well suited to children because it allows a smaller child to control a larger one safely, through leverage and position rather than force. There is no striking in this class. The result is a program that carries a lower injury risk than most youth contact sports while remaining genuinely effective if a child is grabbed, pushed or held down.
That distinction matters, because the great majority of schoolyard incidents involve grabbing and pinning rather than striking. Jiu-Jitsu addresses those situations directly, and emphasises control and de-escalation rather than retaliation.
